Hello everyone and Happy New Year!
The site.
It’s been several weeks since I’ve posted anything so I’m just putting this up to say that I’m still working on the site. New posts, pages, articles, etc will be put up in the coming weeks. I’m working on several ideas right now.
School.
Oregon colleges start up again next week and so I’ll start being busy with that again.
I’ll be busier than ever since I’ll be more involved at MHCC. I’ll still be in the big band and I’ll be doing a combo as well. This term they are doing themed combos and I think there’s going to be a Brazilian one. If there is, that’s the one I’ll do. I love samba and bossa nova.
Teaching.
I’m going to try to keep busier teaching as well. I’ll be grading four classes this term at OSU, up from two last term. It’ll be partially easier though since we’re repeating the two from last term.
In terms of private teaching, I’m going to try to build a larger studio as well. I have four students in Corvallis and none up here in Portland. I’d like to add another 2-3 students in Corvallis and the start teaching one or two afternoon/evenings a week up here.
Getting more students in Corvallis might allow me to build a regular weekly schedule in Corvallis. It would also make the weekly trip down more worthwhile and economical.
Graduate School.
I’m working on grad school applications. I’ve turned on in to University of Oregon already and the due dates for the others will be coming up soon.
I think the audition for Oregon is in early February. Then in late February or early March I’m planning on taking a road trip down California, out to Arizona, and then back up to hit all of the other west coast schools I’m applying to.
Wish me luck on the auditions please.
Gigging.
I’d like to perform more. I might do an informal recital at OSU to prepare for auditions, but I’d also like to perform for real.
I’m working on repertoire on the steel drums and am looking for guys to fill out a small band to perform with. I’m thinking at least bass and drums, and probably piano as well. I’d like to keep the size to a minimum for ease of scheduling and to make sure everyone can make a little money.
I’d also love to do more solo marimba gigs. I did two in December and enjoyed it immensely. I can’t do the Christmas repertoire anymore so I’ll need to learn new pieces to perform, but it’ll be fun.
If you or anyone you know would be interested in hiring me to perform for any functions, parties, etc, please feel free to let me know at colinmalloy@colinmalloy.net.
Well, that’s all the update for now. Check back soon for more posts and updates to the site.
